Right, those things are all over the place. Actually I`ve never seen one of those empty 555+
Anyway, it`s the Thai version of a trash can made out of cottonseed tar.

    They’re trashcans!

We have those in the Philippines too. But I’m not sure what they’re made of… ummm, coconut bark??

I ‘d like to know what the insides of the people who empty them are like. In our village one man stands in the back of the refuse lorry and shovels all the rubbish to the back. His protection in sweltering heat against the various aroma is a thin paper mask.

There are also the modern western plastic garbage cans in Thailand, and I even took a photo of one in Surat Thani. If my memory does not betray me, in that city the plastic ones are the dominate ones, but the “classic” ones are also still present. As garbage collection is one of the tasks of the local administrations, this can change from municipality to the next one.

Garbage or trash containers made of old rubber tires. :)

It’s a great way to recyle old tires.

These are the local garbage cans and they are made of old recycled auto tires . our local ampor furnishes them for us here in Wang Pho and we get them emptied three times a week and the charge is 20 baht a month , you can’t beat that .
I sent pics to my son in America and told him if he could make these to sale ( they have a real big problem with what to do with ole car tires ) he could make lots of money , he said he checked and the local gov. will only allow approved cans to put garbage in for local pick up , they say they are not sanitary and to hard to keep clean.
From the answers above I think I won the prize. Malcolm

Wow!I would have guessed it was some kind of steamer or bread oven. It looks like it’s made of metal to me. That’s really cool!
