Photography in Thailand

Thailand is a rich source for photographers with it’s myriad of colors and interesting subjects. The family laughs at me because I always have my camera with me so I can capture any moment in time. When I don’t take my camera out I usually end up kicking myself for missing a beautiful sunset shot or just one of simple life in the village.
When I’m in America I very rarely pull the camera out or take it with me anywhere which I guess is pretty telling in and of itself. I may just take for granted my daily surroundings but I think it’s more the case that I find life much more interesting and worthwhile in Thailand.
I’d love to know others thoughts on what drives their photography and if that drive is the same when you are in your home country?

Talen the thought that drives my photography is that one day I might get a half decent photo out of my cheap camera, but at £80 what can I expect. Next trip I will be making more use of Wilai’s better and more expensive camera so fingers crossed I should get some decent shots. Excellent snap of the two young monks in the top photograph, although the look captured on their faces seems to be questioning whether it would be the life for them.

The photo of the monks was a gift Martyn…I turned around and there they were. I have to agree with their looks…one looks resigned to his fate and the other looks a little pissed off.
Talen , like you I carry my camera with me always and a extra charged battery to. I took a few pics when in America of the kids and grandkids , , I remember so vacations we would get home and the camera would still be in the gloce box .BUT, not that I did not have a life before Ciejay, But my whole world changed when i meet her and I see everything and everyone in a whole different light . She has the heart of a angel ( not just me that thinks that ) and she has taught me so much about people and myself that I never realized , and I have been a pastor and preacher for 30 years . I guess some things can change and you can teach a old Dog new tricks ha ha . So I sometimes think I take to many and then when I look at them I love them all Malcolm

Malcolm, I sometimes think I take too many shots too but when I look at them I feel the same way.
Talen its usually family shots at home. Here I usually have the camera to hand, there are indeed so many opportunities. The young monks look like they might have just finished sweeping the Wat grounds! Great shot.

An important question you raise her Talen!
I never leave the house without my camera. Missed too many nice shots. Which is why I recently downsized the equipment. The DSLR with the many lenses is gone, replaced by a small Leica, a gem of a camera.
But for certain photography you can’t do without certain primes and zooms.
I’m soon again in the market for a decent DSLR – while I enjoy your photography. There are photographers who never shoot people.
People, the most exciting objects/subjects, are a centerpiece of your images.

I love taking shots of people…especially when they are just going about their business and don’t know I’m there Wats and flowers come in a close second though.
I’m in the market for another DSLR as well and something small that takes good night pics.
