Swine Flu is terrible, it has me scared that the world is going to be over run with the pandemic. I pray it is only a flavor of the month deal with the media.

wait a minute is there a Mexican factory producing these masks next to a pig farm
and yes get to Tokyo there nuts and would buy tons of those masks just pay 100 students to start wearing them in central tokyo then put a few street sellers around with the masks you would sell 20 to 30.000 in a day profit about 5 million baht

I have read the exact opposite, that from tissue samples of 1918 victims it was possible to reconstruct the virus, and it was a H1N1 originating from birds. See e.g. the Wikipedia article. But it's still an open question whether the Spanish flu would be same devastating now as it was in the aftermath of the World War, and with no antiviral drugs or antibiotics to help secondary bacterial infections like today. .-= Andy´s last blog ..District boundary signs =-.

Mike, The real problem is the fact that even if there is a mutated virus that spreads easily and kills…it will do just that.

What America and the European governments have on hand is for a known virus not for a what could be virus. By the time they come up with a remedy many people will have died.

There is still great concern that the Spanish Influenza could return and there is nothing to combat it. Researches have been trying in vane to figure it out even going as far as digging up 2 world war 1 vets in Alaska. They had hoped that the virus they died of would be trapped in their cells protected by the permafrost…but it wasn’t.

So, no matter what every country will be on a level playing field.

You’re so right, it’s all the usual media hype, the trouble is when a real disaster happens we’ll have been so numbed by the soundbite headlines over the years we won’t react as we should.
