Talen, I have read some saving the savages books about Bangkok. It was quite interesting what they were getting up to in those days (both the missionaries and the 'savages' :-)

Talen until I started blogging last year I didn't really take much notice of Thai architecture. To me and I hate to admit it but that meant visiting a really old bar, that was my sort of architecture. You do feature a lot of temples and the like on your site and through them I have grown to realise what I have been missing out on. I have asked Wilai if she can pick out a few temples to see on our visit to Kanchanaburi, that's how much you have changed my thinking. Thailand many years before...it must have been wonderful, their culture grips me now, it must have been wonderful way back then.

Cat, I have a feeling that any misionary books you might find will probably be centered more on saving the savages :)

Mike, I haven't seen Zog Zag...going to go look it up now.

If Bangkok didn't have traffic it would be the most wonderful place on earth!

Interesting idea Talen. I've often wondered what Bangkok was like back when most travel was done via waterway. I have the book 'Bangkok Then & Now' but it doesn't really concentrate far enough back. Books written by missionaries might be what I'm looking for.

Talen I agree. Try imagining Bangkok without traffic!!

I do like the way that old and new are often side by side. Trouble is there are many interesting sites hidden away.

Have you looked at the Bangkok Post's Zog Zag guide?
