Rik, The tourist police volunteers are already in country on retirement vis’as or thew like and have saved sufficient money to live on or have pensions. Several have started business as well in the Pattaya area, such as Howard Miller who runs Pattaya One News.

Paul, No, they don’t have to pay to be volunteer tourist police and they aren’t paid either…it’s a volunteer position.

the foreighners doin the tourist police job actually have to pay every month to be a tourist police officer ha its a farse

would people really take things seriously wearing orange uniforms or would they look more like they have just been to a full moon party…. i think they do a great job and for those who moan about them…… well im sure if you were to get in trouble in thailand then the tourist police would be a better solution than having to deal with Thai police alone…

The answer is simple, apply the rules of the Special Constabulary as they do in the UK.

One thing though, where to they live and how do they service if they are not paid?

I have personally witnessed one of these tourist police threaten a farang with arrest if he didnt pay a prostitute 500b that was owed supposedly owed her, no other police were present, he got a free short time out of it

Talen as Lloyd states an excellent follow up to your previous dip into the hornets nest. Your opinions are bang on as far as I’m concerned and orange vests would make them easier to spot and much more approachable. What I can’t understand is that these volunteers don’t get paid anything, surely they must get some small daily expenses or are they all retired and living off big pensions.

An ex police officer, ex CIA agent and a wannabee nun. The plot thickens, have I stumbled onto something big here.
