Nio, I have seen my fair share of scams from Bangkok to Pattaya. While I agree with what you say in essence I don't agree with how the production handles specific events.

"Not one of these people that got scammed ever made the news until BTIT brought it into the public eye."

People that have been scammed in Thailand Have made the news in the past and they will make the news again in the future.

This production showed to a very small audience in the U.K. and they were mostly males aged 18-34 so the average tourist probably didn't see it. and the people it showed to on the net are already well aware of what goes on in Thailand so I highly doubt the documentary did much to make anyone aware of the problem.

I agree that the message is important but if you act in such a way that you are no better than the scammer then there is also a problem. And I have no doubt that the production company was looking for ratings not to educate people.

Unfortunately for both sides, the reality of the matter is sometimes dramatic effect is the only way to get the point across to the masses.

Talen I don't know how long you have lived in Thailand but if you have not lived in the heart of a resort town versus out in the country, you have no realistic idea of the scams that are committed daily against tourists.

Television shows are on TV for the dramatic effect so the writers, directors, etc. can highlight their point of view to the masses with their OWN flair.

Without dramatic effect, this story about JJ would never had made the news.

In Thailand, until international media gets involved, the Thai authorities never give a second thought to the 1,000's of tourists that get ripped off every month in Thailand.

Read www.bangkokscams.com from Paknam web, who I reguard as the one of, if not the most knowledgeable foreigner living in Thailand 20+ years.

There are 100's of actual comments from actual people that have been ripped off in these scams. Many of these people comment they will never ever come back to Thailand.

Not one of these people that got scammed ever made the news until BTIT brought it into the public eye.

Yes drama and international exposure are a must to get any kid of corrective action and BTIT did just that.

For all the support you give to this story, you miss the heart of the real story and that is the 1,000's of other tourists that get ripped off each month in scams.

In Thailand it takes more than talk to get action. It takes dramatic effect as BTIT has brought to millions of viewers.

Until scams and crime in Thailand are highlighted enough to get the government to act, more and more innocent people will be ripped off and that can include you and me.

Realize the intent to highlight crime is an important contribution to cleaning up Thailand, not how a video was or was not made.

It is the message that is important.

A "lying idiot"? Ouch! I think someone just lost the argument, not to mention committing libel.
