Well I must admit after visiting the site for the first time I fell for it hook line and sinker! Shame on me.

Great story though and after spending a few years in Thailand I can totally relate to this sort of thing. The Thais have such a freestyle way of cooking food that the same dish never quite tastes the same. I was dangerously addicted to the fermented sausages that are eaten with lettuce, chilies and ginger, and would gladly sneak away from my family to enjoy a few bites.

Thanks for the great article Talen and I will look forward to the next.

Rick,
There are a few 7-11's but not near as many as other places in Thailand and they are well hidden on side streets. I went looking for one one day while walking through town and it took me 40 minutes.

The flip side is they are very popular at lunch time. The few 7-11's I was in all had hundreds of pre-made sandwiches and 4 or more of those sandwich toasting machines. The lines were phenomenal

Nakhon Phanom really is a beautiful city.

OK, call me a dope for asking you whether you've written on Nakhon Phanom. Sheesh! Must have had momentary amnesia when I asked you above.

So thanks for the tour of NP via all 689 photos! I like the beautiful scenes of the wide road along the Mekong as well as the wide streets and familiar services. But, how could you take any photos without 7-11s? ;-)

I have a very positive reaction to the place after viewing your pix. Will put it on my winter itinerary, when I visit Ubon.

I had a breakfast sandwich brought to me one morning with egg and chicken and I was in heaven until I learned it was actually egg and left over tadpoles from the day before...the tadpoles were good but not a morning food.

Didn't think I could fool you Mike...I think it might be very easy to say that sampling another womans food over your womans could be a very bad thing if you should let it slip that you like it more.

Rick, believe it or not that red painted building with the hearts was some sort of dating place that closed down.

I saw the Stickman article on NP and it was pretty much dead on. Really not much of a night life other than a few bars here and there but there is an over abundance of beautiful women.

I found out during Songkran that the women of NP are very friendly to the farangs...I didn;t take any of them up on their offers because I would have had something cut off while I sleep but the offers were there.

There are quite a few posts on NP here from pictures of the city to the Wats and farm life.

Yeah, me too. Hooked. A tale well told, Talen. Particularly effective as a ruse was the red shack photo. Where was that photo shot? (Hint, hint ;-)

Now, I was very interested in your thoughts about Nakhon Phanom. Stick wrote a very complimentary travel feature on that city. Spoke highly of the, uh, citizenry and how a guy couldn't go wrong if he, uh, simply looked around. No, a good bar is not what I'm thinking of. Heh, heh. (Although I would have had a hard time bypassing those Chang girls, because there marks BEER.) The point is Stick said the town held a disproportionate number of residents of GF grade potential.

A little more seriously, have you written on NP? And please point me to your post.

Thanks.

Great post! I have to admit you had me... I was a bit shocked, but my curiosity got the best of me. Is it April 1 already? :)

A great tale although knowing you through the pages of your blog I knew Pookie was safe.

I get the impression most Thai ladies think their food is the best in the world and I am certainly not going to stick my head above the parapet and tell MTF I didn't enjoy something!

Aroi or Aloi mak mak!

Talen, you are so funny :-)

And yum! Dim sum. Ari had a decent place to feast (man or women). For several years, I would frequent it for extended Sunday lunches. They grew and didn't keep up with the growth (quality of both service and dim sum went down). Sad. No more dim sum for me.
