Chang World Reggae Festival 2010

Chang World Reggae 2010

The 5th annual Pai World Reggae Festival will be this January 29th-30th at the Coffee in Love, a popular meeting place for music enthusiasts in Pai Mea Hongson. Pai has become a popular scenic destination with both Thai’s and foreign backpackers in recent years after being used as the setting for several popular Thai movies and for the in spot Coffee in Love where music is celebrated year round.

the quaint village has the look of a 100year old fishing village and has become the in spot to relax and take in the sites as well as enjoy hiking and white water rafting on the Pai river.

The World Reggae Festival has made it’s home here for the past 5 years and this year it has major sponsorship from none other than Chang Beer which should propel the two day music festival to greater heights. Aside from some great reggae music from a multitude of acts the festival will also have a vintage car parade, fire shows, hand made arts and crafts, an artisan market and street stalls selling food and drink.

Entrance fees for the event are 350 baht for one day and 500 baht for both days. There will also be a camp ground set up for backpackers with tent accommodation for two at 500 baht per night.

Musical acts set to play at the festival include:

  1. Talen I had never heard of Pai Mea Hongson and I couldn’t find lots of information on it. Am I right in saying it’s up near Chiang Mai.

A reggae festival in a quaint lookalike 100 year old fishing village. After the previous 4 years the locals must be used to some of the strange hair-dos. I like reggae music and this would be the type of event I could easily attend.I bet there’s a few Thai’s making a killing doing braids and hair extensions.

  2. Martyn, yes, it’s just North of Chiang Mai. Now that Chang is sponsoring the event it will become more recognized but it’s been a backpacker staple for some time now. Lots of guest houses there.

I’d love to make it to this event myself. Pattaya also has a yearly reggae festival that I think is in August…have to look it up again to find out for sure.
