Talen, great pictures sent them to my kids in Oregon , they said they wish they were here , and I said come on over , this is twice they had plans to come visit and both times the unrest in BKK made them change their minds , they are afraid for the kids. first it was the Yellow and This time it was the Reds , my son said “Dads whats wrong with them people over there” ,and I was lost for words . Talen great photos and believe me it may be a little quieter when I take my walk, but in a couple of weeks time I’m going to enjoy strolling down Soi Diana to 2nd Road and wherever.
The smiles stand out most even amongst all the flour and water, Thailand’s Songkran Festival has to be one of the best celebrations in the whole world. I can’t understand why so many people here in the UK have never heard of it. Is it the same in America?

Malcolm, Well..at least the airport hasn’t been affected this time. I can Imagine it’s hard to explain to those back home just whats happening.
Hopefully they can get to Thailand soon, I’m sure they’ll love it.

Martyn, I may just be in town when you are there.
No one in America knows anything about any Thailand festivals ..unless of course they have been there. But once you explain Songkran they all want to come.

I have judiciously avoided Songkran in Pattaya – I do not enjoy being doused by drunken falang everywhere I go.
My wife, on the other hand, has informed me that she will (along with her mother who has come down to join her for the holiday) be “mao mak mak” on the 19th.
As I am in the states I asked if I should give her a call that day before breakfast. She said it wouldn’t matter as she would probably already be drunk by then !!

Great photos! It’s nice to see the Thais laughing and smiling again given the current political situation. I think Songkran couldn’t have come at a better time.

Chuck, is there any other way to celebrate Songkran? Last year while driving through Mukdahan to Nakhon Phanom we had to stop at every house and throw water and in turn at each stop they pulled out the clay pots of homemade Thai whiskey to share…and this was at 9 in the morning

Being from Sabah, Malaysia, I have heard of the water festival. It has always seemed strange that Malaysia being just across the border from Thailand, does not celebrate this festival. This looks like so much fun!

Talen, I am coming in sooooooo very late…
Fabulous pics! Almost like being there (but with staying dry and all).
I totally missed Songkran this year; my heart just wasn’t in it. I did go out yesterday, but except for a promise of a Songkran party that evening, nadda was to be found.
