  1. Talen unfortunately the timing of Chiang Mai Fest 2011 is a week or so too early for me. I’m possibly planning to spend a few nights in Chiang Mai sometime in May and this festival would be good to see. It has so many varied attractions, Bollywood Dance, basket weaving, origami and Scottish bagpipes are proof of that. The festival should be a big hit but I do wish other big provincial cities would host a big bash like this.

  2. Martyn, it seems with the passing of each year more provinces are scheduling festivals or events to distinguish themselves from the pack. Obviously places like Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Bangkok will always be adopting new festivals and events to add to what they have already but I think a trend is starting in that direction where more provinces of Thailand will start seeing better tourism numbers. Unfortunately with more events and tourism numbers growing for some of the lesser known provinces we may see change top accommodate the tourists which might take away from their otherwise beautiful Thai charms.

  3. Thanks for letting me know what is going on in my ‘hood! It should be a nice kickoff to the Songkran holiday week.

And with the cooler weather we’ve been having, I think you are right, tourism will start to grow again.

  4. Talen, will you be going to the festival to see our lovely Chiang mia ladies, Lani and Nina?

  5. Well. Darn. Not awake yet.

    Chiang mia = Chiang mai

  6. Cat, I would love to but as luck would have it I am battling tonsillitis again…the unseasonable weather and my horrid throat are keeping me close to bed at the moment.

  7. Oh no! Darn it, that’s tough luck. Again. Songkran is coming up fast so I hope you can kick this one in its butt asap.

But can I at least be assured that you are in loving, caring hands? At last count, four, yeah? :-D

  8. Cat, my nurses have all abandoned me for home and the coming songkran holiday. One left for Roi Et last week, one left for Korat yesterday, although she did tend to me for 2 days before leaving. I might have a bit of luck though as one has called me twice a day for the past 3 days and she has threatened to come back and take care of me…I’m dying here….

  9. You get awfully sick so I hope she comes back and rescues you soon!

Ok, now for some serious talk…

How about those tonsils? Hmmmm? Are you ready to get cut this time ’round?

It’s not like they are taking anything further down (and knives don’t often slip that far).

Honesty. I’d seriously be thinking about it right now. I mean, just look at all the fun you’ve already missed since coming to Thailand.

  10. Unfortunately the only time they can take tonsils out is when they aren’t inflamed and seriously, what healthy person wants their throat cut? In the meantime My nurse should be along shortly to sort me out :)

  11. Darn. You got the last word in up there… but there’s always down here…

Seriously? Ok, I’ll bite. What sane person wants to feel like they are ‘gonna die’ once a month? :-D

  12. Cat, it’s about once every 2 months and if you really want to drive the point home just tell me I would only be able to eat Dairy Queen M&M Blizzards for a week or two and I’ll probably fold…Hell I’ll probably let you perform the operation with a dull spoon :P

    Talen | Mar 30, 2011 | Reply

  13. Talen, it’s a deal :-D I have TONS of dull spoons going spare and as this is Thailand I’m sure I can get daily Blizzards delivered to your sick bed after. How’s that?

    Catherine | Mar 30, 2011 | Reply

  14. cat, only if I can guarantee my nurse Jae is available…or Kung…or Nit…or Vie…if so then you can have at me with said spoon …but I better not run out of Blizzards!
