You’ll have to excuse the lateness of this edition as my internet went down last night just as I was about to publish the days glorious budgetary events.
Living Like a Thai Day 6
Today I took living like a Thai to the extreme. I stayed home, slept and watched T.V. all day! Since I had fruits, ramen noodles and water there was absolutely no need to go out and be bothered with spending my hard earned cash.
This is a good thing because a few days like this will cover my laundry budget for the month and if I can squeek in a few more days like this I might be able to go out for a night on the town. Obviously the night on the town would be in cheap charlie mode but still it would be a night out on the town.
Observations today: I’m really getting into the whole fruit thing. Inexpensive, tasty and good for you is just what the doctor ordered and so against the grain of the usual things I like such as cigarettes and Jack Daniels…I miss Jack a little.
From the E-mail bag:
Now, with my handy dandy Thai skills I was able to translate this email. It basically says…I’m not Thai…I’m not living like a Thai and I should be ashamed for making fun of Thai’s. But, there is something not quite right about this email, can you spot it? Here’s a hint: the person that wrote it is definitely not Thai.
Well that’s all for this edition, today’s edition will appear later this evening my time and I’m thinking I am going to spend some money today
Todays Totals: 0 zip, zilch, nadda, absolutely nothing
June Totals: 832 baht ( $28.32 )

Talen an excellent day for your budget, a few more like that and you will be able to paint the town a watery coloured red.
The email…there’s a couple of English words in there but that’s probably not the reason. I’ll go for there being too many gaps between the words.
Martyn, it may even be a watery colored pink…You got it right with the English words, in particular the misspelled yoiu which is indicitive of how goole translate would handle an English to Thai translation.
re the frugal tightwad.
word on the street is you have given up eating jam for the month as you were having trouble passing the pips!!
Arch, Lies all lies…I gave up jam because it’s too damn expensive.
Ogle is always free, if u get tired of the tube.

The fiscal belt tightening is working ! Soon expect to make a new hole in your belt too ! Hurrayyyyy.
Joe, Ogling is free but I know my weaknesses and ogling leads to drinking which leads to more ogling and before I know it I’ve spent 2000 baht. I am thinking about going out tomorrow night for a bit to say hello to friends though so we shall see.
Talen, except for the watching TV bit, that’s what I did all day. Stayed home. But once or twice a week I get out and blow the budget. Getting out does that.
Cat, what are you blowing your budget on?
I didn’t really watch tv as much as let it go in the background as I worked on the net…
Talen, groceries in Thailand have gotten more dear in the 6 years plus I’ve been here.
I’m tempted to stop by Makro just to check out the prices. I’ve been several times but that was years ago.
Cat, supermarkets can be expensive…I used to love cheese but it’s so damn expensive here.
There’s a good sharp cheddar (Australian) at Villa for around 120 baht. Same goes for feta (not Australian, but about half the price of the others).
I love cheese…
My fave is the Smoked Gouda that Villa carries but a small hunk is 210 baht!
Talen, you inspired me today. For dinner I had Chicken flavored ramen noodles: $0.28 (8 baht?) – Wal-Mart
Rambone, hey this budget would be even better for you…think of all the money you can save for a trip to Thailand
Talen, I refuse to pay 200 baht for a small chunk of cheese or even a medium size chunk. But I will pay a decent price for cheese when I’m in the west.
definitely a ‘google translate’ in that email
not only the ‘Engrish’ words but the lack of a classifier for ‘Thai’
(people)
Love this stuff, it’s a good exercise.
Can’t believe how much your electric bill is though! 1400 baht! wow! My Mrs complains when ours is over 700! No aircon though so maybe that’s it?
keep it up mate (although this comment will be after it’s all finished!) lol
