Thailand in the News Week Ending 12/05/09
By Talen on Dec 6, 2009 in Thailand News
Not much on the news front today as I’m feeling a bit under the weather but the biggest news story this week was the King’s 82cnd Birthday so I thought I would post a few pics of one of the many ceremonies held in his honor.
The last picture is in honor of little Fa who’s Birthday is the day after the King’s. So, Happy 3rd Birthday Fa and here’s hoping you have many many more…Laak Mak Mak.

I know that for Thai people the King is very important(like the Queen for British).
It is important for me when visiting a foreign country to respect their culture and, as I am aware, jokes about the king could end in a bad way.
Talen, I am so sorry that you are still all muffed up. There is no good time for being ill, but the holidays are some of the worse.
Except for signing a book of well wishes for the King, I did not get out for the celebrations. My modem – an almost brand new Belkin – has been going wonky, so everything is taking way too long to do. And I am desperate to get things sorted here in order to have celebrations of my own. So, no time for partying with the King for me!

Talen I hope you and HM the King are both on the road to a full recovery. The photo’s of the King’s birthday ceremonies look amazing and we know how much he means to the Thai people. I was in Pattaya way back on the King’s 72nd birthday and I remember 72 elephants being paraded through the city.
A big happy birthday to Fa and you must be looking forward to seeing her on your next trip.

Cat, Signing the book for the King is very cool though and much more than I could do.
Martyn, that must have been so cool to be in town for the Kings Birthday and witness the celebrations.
I’m gonna go and lop off my head now…this cold or flu is kicking my ass…
Talen, I know that soon you will be in Thailand, looking back on these times. I am looking forward to it too. Your way of twiddling out the odd bits of Thailand teaches me more about the country I call home. So when you are finally living here, there will be more, more, and more. Nice.
