When I was about 3 years old, my mother spun out in gravel with her motorbike going around and around on top of her, pushing her body into the sharp rocks.

The hospital had to use a wire brush to get the gravel out of her legs. She was bedridden for almost a year, with three little kids to take care of. Family stepped in to help when my father was sent overseas without us.

Friends in my life have not been so lucky.

I’m sorry to hear about your father. Unfortunately it seems to be a part of life in Thailand but hopefully one day it won’t be so.

I was able to shake it off but it did take a bit.

This week is all about the living though…I hope

I can read about the numbers online, but when something is close by it becomes personal.

Actually I saw your post a few days ago but had just purchased a motorbike and have been practicing so I didn’t want to read your post.

I must say I understand. My father died here. Motorbike accident, impatient bus driver, you get the picture.

When I was sixteen I remember how many accidents I had seen and how shocked I was at the frequency. And when I lived in another area of town I saw many many funerals.

It’s a rather sobering post. I hope though that you are able to shake it off. Death is a part of living.

I look at the zebra crossings on second road as targets and stay well clear of them.
