Will it change...who knows but not for a long while i think....interesting post and views...thanks..Ag that is a sad story and it is sad what you say but it is sad because true…it just seems that is the way in Thailand and people just accept it…I know it is different in the West because I spend a lot of time in Australia where this sort of thing does not happen like that. It's a shame, though. In the west, I would have no problem helping out in an accident, having First Aid and CPR certification (expired now though). A helper is protected by a Good Samaritan Law. However, in Thailand, if you really, really want to help out, you are endangering yourself by being on the road and very likely being cornered for financial help and, crazily, being blamed. So the only correct option is to scoot. Sad though that is. Talen, I think you did the right thing, in moving on. It’s a shame, though. Thailand is a crazy place to ride bikes (and this from a gal with a hankering to ride a Harley... just one last time). When I was about 3 years old, my mother spun out in gravel with her motorbike going around and around on top of her, pushing her body into the sharp rocks. The hospital had to use a wire brush to get the gravel out of her legs. She was bedridden for almost a year, with three little kids to take care of. Family stepped in to help when my father was sent overseas without us. Friends in my life have not been so lucky. Lani, ditto on the taking care. I'm sorry to hear about your father. Unfortunately it seems to be a part of life in Thailand but hopefully one day it won't be so. I was able to shake it off but it did take a bit. One died at a party I was at 5 minutes after I left then the next day, same bar/guesthouse they found a man committed suicide in his room just after I left. This week is all about the living though...I hope :P Cat, I didn’t know any of the people that died but it did hit close to home. It makes my heart hurt just hearing it. I can read about the numbers online, but when something is close by it becomes personal. Talen, that is so sad. It makes my heart hurt just hearing it.

Okay you win. Actually I saw your post a few days ago but had just purchased a motorbike and have been practicing so I didn't want to read your post. I must say I understand. My father died here. Motorbike accident, impatient bus driver, you get the picture. When I was sixteen I remember how many accidents I had seen and how shocked I was at the frequency. And when I lived in another area of town I saw many many funerals. It's a rather sobering post. I hope though that you are able to shake it off. Death is a part of living. Suicide is another big statistic here. I look at the zebra crossings on second road as targets and stay well clear of them.
