Koh Phangan Full Moon Parties are the end all and be all of parties and one party many travelers must attend every year. Be prepared for a rollicking great time but remember to watch out for your personal safety and stay out of trouble.
If you plan on attending one of the full moon parties you might want to keep a few things in mind:
- While there is a drug culture related to the full moon parties, drugs are illegal in Thailand and if caught you will face significant fines, jail time and or deportation and blacklisting from the country.
- Plan ahead and book accommodations early. With over 20,000 people attending each party you want to make sure you have a place to stay.
- If you want to party but don’t want to deal with the noise all night long book a hotel out of town.
- If you want to leave the island the day after the party book your boat in advance as they fill up quickly.
- Police enforcement is stepped up during the party and while they are there for your protection they are also there to make arrests if you get out of hand.
With that in mind remember to look out for your own safety and while everyone loves to party it up doing so to excess could have very real implications. Listed below are the dates for the 2011 full moon parties.

Paul Garrigan´s last blog ..My First Day as a Teacher in Thailand Was a Nightmare
Paul, I’ve thought about it and I might just do it one of these days but like you those days are pretty much behind me.
You could use the blog to justify the trip. I would imagine you would get a few good posts out of it. I might even stay up late if you were blogging live from the event – at least until 10pm anyway

Paul, that is very true and I might just have to do that but you’ll have to promise to stay up till at least 11pm
Talen, that’s a good list for those game to go.
Ditto for me on not going. Too many crazy people, too much noise.

Cat, come you know you want to let your hair down and party the night away
Talen that’s one big full moon party schedule, the island must love it financially when that big round ball shines full on and bright.
The Xmas and New Year parties would be fantastic occasions to visit Koh Phangan. Unfortunately I’ll be sticking to the quieter life.
Martyn´s last blog ..Thailand Blogs – October 2010 Review
Martyn, I’m sure the Island loves it’s money maker…the event is always well attended…the Xmas and New Years dates are extremely crowded.
That’s so funny, I was going to comment on how much I’m glad you are going and not me. As if I could live vicariously though you Talen. That picture is the perfect picture of my nightmare
Lani, yeah I think you are right about the nightmare scenario but I may have to chance for an on the ground report…seems no one else wants to go.
Talen, after Lani’s comment, it’s now official. Your readers are demanding posts filled with rocking chairs and quiet corners.
To liven it up, perhaps you could throw in bottles of whisky and cold beer. And maybe Alka-Seltzer for afters.
So to revise, that’ll be an order of rocking chairs in corners, whisky and cold beer, and Alka-Seltzer.
I’m feeling old(er) today. Can you tell?

Cat, Just say NO to rocking chairs….while full moon parties may not be our thing I think we are all far off from alka seltzer and sitting on the porch…whiskey and cold beer is always a plus
Speak for yourself. I have a ten years supply of Alka-Seltzer (must be all that whisky sans cold beer).
