One thing that has always attracted me to Thai women and Asian women in general is their hair. Beautiful, lustrous and usually long, just the way I like it. Unfortunately the good points often give way to the one bad point…Thai women shed like dogs, and I ain’t talking Chihuahua I’m talking sheep dog. Now, I have had quite a few cats and dogs in my time as pets and not one of them shed like my girl and her friends.
Normally dogs and cats will shed in the spring and summer to thin out their coats but if it’s an indoor pet that trend usually reverses and they shed in the winter time because increased heat in the house while in the summertime they grow thicker hair due to continued air conditioner usage. At least that’s how it worked with my cats and seemingly my Thai girls are no different.
Just yesterday I swept out the whole condo and mopped, no big deal the place is small, but when I finished sweeping I had a pile of hair big enough to make a new rug for Donald Trump. You might be thinking I should sweep more often but I swear I just swept the day before!
I keep looking for bald spots on the girl but I can’t find any anywhere and on the days when her sister or other friends stop by the problem is only compounded. Sweeping up all the hair isn’t a problem though but the shower drain is another matter. In less than a month I have had to pour drain cleaner down the drain twice to clear the hair clogs out! I have to be fair though it’s not all her hair, it seems that every Thai woman I know stops by and uses my shower.
Here’s the thing though, all Thai women wear a shower cap when they take a shower. So, just how in the hell does this hair escape and clog my drain?
I’ve come to realize that the hair shedding isn’t so much a cooling mechanism, early balding or rough hair treatment it’s actually a defense and early warning system. The other day Ying stopped by with her sister and her best friend Neung and as soon as she walked in the door she said you had lady here. It’s true, A friend had stopped by and the property manager ( a female ) had been in the condo, but how the hell did she know?
By the single hair on the floor…
Now, I’m no rocket scientist but there is no way in hell she could distinguish that hair from any other hair on the floor as they are all approximately the same size and color. If my friend Rin stopped by that would be a different story as her hair is past her knees in length and coal black, but the hairs on the floor were all a few inches to 2 feet long and brownish black.
I don’t think it matters though because the statement ” you have lady…hair not mine” isn’t so much an accusatory statement of fact as it is a guess to try and slip you up into admitting you have had a lady over. No problem for me because I always answer “yes, I had lady over…and you all shed like dogs!”.
I’m seriously considering buying a bunch of hairnets and putting them in a basket by the door with a sign that reads “hairnets must be worn by Thai women at all times”…then again, long hair is sexy, Thai women are sexy and hair nets decidedly not.
Evidence Thai women have been around

Hi Talen, looking at the picture I can see why you would might be so taken with her hair
I was actually just admiring that bracelet on her left arm. To be honest, I did even notice she was wearing any hair – my mind was elsewhere.

Paul, The lady pictured is a good friend…I posted her pic because she has gorgeous hair…among other things

Talen, it’s not just Asian women. I’m driving myself nuts cleaning my own long hair of the floor…and you’re right, I can’t figure out why I’m not bald yet. I’ve even gone to the extent of brushing it outside on the balcony. Big shiny white floor tiles + no vacuum cleaner = a royal pain!
Snap recently posted..Royal Flora Ratchaphruek
Snap, The big white tiles definitely don’t help. I swear I have swept up enough hair to build my own big foot doll…life sized.
Talen you are so right, Duen sheds at a phenomenal rate. But I agree with Snap its not just Asian women, although the dark hair is more noticeable.
Makes me wonder why I came here sometimes since I prefer blondes

Mike, The dark hair is definitely more noticeable and the tile floors don’t help matters much but have you noticed your hair? I know I don’t shed like them.
Ha,
Hair! Looks beautiful in situ, BUT!
Is there nothing worse than cleaning out the soapy, oily, hairy mess that infests the underfloor drain (Thai plumbing – no grease trap) that runs the length of our house? Add the cockroaches and centipedes, the overflow from the septic tank, and it becomes a task that no Thai will volunteer for. Yuk!
Only one place where hair collects more consistently and annoyingly in our house – the small wheels on my wheelchair, where despite daily cleaning (ah, the smell of burning hair!), I regularly have to replace the bearings.
Why do the Mrs and her friends shed SO much hair???
Mirth, your wheelchair and drain situation definitely makes my shower clogs pale in comparison. Someone should fund a study on why they shed so much…
Hi Talen,
A lot of girls with long hair have hair extensions.
The’re are two techniques to set extensions. The cheapest way is to use glue, but the glue wears out especially when washing or blow-drying. After a month a lot of hair is shed every day.
Another more expensive method is setting clips, the clips don’t wear out, and very little is shed, just they need to have it replaced every 2 or 3 months but a part of the extension hair is kept and set a 2nd time and 3rd time, so it becomes cheaper when doing it more often. So my advise is: Ask your friends who have extensions and who don’t. Advise the ladies with glued extensions to use clips in the future..

I-Nomad,
None of these ladies has hair extensions…they just shed like dogs…
I was going to say what Snap said about myself…but with (beautiful) hair the length of your (beautiful) friend’s in the picture, I can’t even imagine what it would be like!

Talen perhaps Thai girls shed so much hair through worrying about what their partners are up to.
I remember when I stayed with a Thai girl in a Pattaya apartment and when it was time to check out and move on she cut a lock of her hair and put it behind the bathroom mirror. To this day I don’t know why the hell she did it. Possibly to get me out of her hair.
Thai ladies have great hair and what amazing things they can do with it in a minute or so with a flick of the wrists and an elastic band.

my hair was that long once – ONCE! it’s such a pain in the ass. it gets caught on everything, i was starting to feel like a muppet.
and yes, shedding like an animal is not fun. i clean my drain every day. i used to clog drains back in the states.
it’s just a girl thing
Lani, I can imagine that long hair can be a pain…but it looks so good.
Great topic, Talen. More could be done, you know, like more pictures!
It’s pretty hard to top the beauty of that beautiful natural black hair. I think short hair looks equally good on Thai girls. But I’m not picky.

Rick, I think I can work something up with more pictures
The lady in the picture has very cute and healthy hair. I do not think that kind of hair will shed so easily. May be it is due to the shampoos or other chemical based creams they apply on their hair. Any way I wounder how they manage this hair
