The LPGA will kick off this season with The Honda LPGA Thailand which will once again take place at Siam Country Club in Pattaya on the old course from February 17th through the 20th.
It was announced that 50 professional golfers will take place this year , all of which were on the official money list of 2010 including many top names and previous LPGA winners. It’s expected that the Honda LPGA Thailand tournament will draw large crowds to Siam Country Club. The purse for this event is $1,450,000.
Mrs.Surang Prempree, Managing Director of Channel 7 stated:
I firmly believe that golf fans around the world will focus on daily the result of the Honda LPGA Thailand in mid February next year as the tournament is chosen by the LPGA to be the season opening event for the year 2011 which the race to be World’s No. 1 is very intense. The Rolex Rankings No. 1 spot has changed hands nine times between three different players, Shin Ji Yai, Cristie Kerr and Ai Miyazato since Lorena Ochoa retired this season. It is expected to see other three players; Suzann Pettersen, Paula Creamer and Na Yeon Choi vie for the crown in the year 2011 as well
The strength of Honda LPGA Thailand will present the image of Thailand in tourism, investment and credibility, with Thai’s warm hospitality, the supports from private and government sectors and the professionalism in event management of Channel 7 and IMG, I strongly convinced that Honda LPGA Thailand 2011 will enhance the benefits to our country as it functions since 2006.
Siam Country Club’s old course is widely recognized as the best golf course in Thailand and a fitting venue for the Honda LPGA Thailand 2011. sIAm Country Club is playing host to the only LPGA-sanctioned event in Thailand which is an excellent opportunity to showcase the club’s world class facilities, further promoting Thailand as the great golfing destination.

Talen – Pattaya is now stamping its mark on sport in a big way with its tennis, golf and water-sports events. The city definitely has enough quality hotels to cater for any large influx of spectators cum tourists who attend Pattaya’s showpiece sports fixtures. It all helps in chipping away at the city’s bad image as a sex tourist resort.

Martyn, they really have stepped up efforts getting quality sports events to town. That coupled with all the festivals and other events is really making an impact on Pattaya.
