Living Like a Thai Day 17: Red Moon Eclipse Edition
By Talen on Jun 17, 2011 in Living in Thailand, Thai life
Artist Impression of the Red Moon Eclipse
As per Mike over at Thailand -Blogs there was a Red Moon Eclipse Early Thursday morning and I really Meant to remember and take pictures but alas I forgot. I think it was too coudy to see anyway. But I decided to doctor up another Pattaya Moon picture I took because I think it will be fitting for today’s edition of living like a Thai.
Today was a great day for the budget because I didn’t spend one satang. I have quality food, water and everything else I need including shampoo and soap…unfortunately I have a problem…a serious problem…I’m bored.
Seeing as I saved 104 baht today I’m thinking I might go out for a bit tonight and play a few games of pool at a rather nice establishment where I am barely known
This is probably not the best of ideas considering the experiment is teetering on the brink of a blown budget but I think ( there I go again ) that I can go out and be a responsible adult and still cure the boredom in my soul.
I’ll follow a similar plan to the last time I went out with a few well thought out variations. I won’t be going to my local. I will be going to an establishment that can be best described as a beer bar that has seen better days, what I mean to say is that the bar is fine, the live band is impeccable ( they play Johnny Cash & Metallica ) but the ladies and ladyboy have seen better days.
A few games of pool and maybe a beer or two ( 35 baht Tiger happy hour ) I should be fine,,,right?
Living Like a Thai Day 17 Expences ( to be continued )
Gonna leave the expences blank until tomorrow when I know exactly what the damage is

Go get out there and get pissed…. oh is 107 baht really going to be enough. How about you stay in save the money so you’ll have 200+ to go out and have a real bender tomo! haha
Good Luck tonight!

this is like looking at a car crash, you know what’s going to happen but you cannot help watching, only it’s baht being spilt all over the place this time

villa market in bangkok/sukhumvit soi 2 is currently having a sale on “mcgarret instant oatmeal – 500gram”. buy 1 get 1 – 40 baht.
each bag has like 20 one cup servings. that means each serving costs 1 baht. if you eat 3 servings a day, you only spend 3 baht. cheaper than eating rice and beans.

Talen thanks for the mention, didn’t see it here because of cloud and rain.
BTW the oatmeal suggestion is a great idea, I assume its the same as what I would call porridge, very filling cheap and healthy.
Not sure about the pool idea though

I hope you managed to stick to your budget on the night out. Maybe you should buy lemons with your 104 baht and make lemonade – you could then sell it at the bar

The only way this is going to look good, Talen, is if you win money at the pool table. LOL
Oh, oh, here’s comes the car . . .
(And I haven’t read the next installment either.)

This 200 baht a day is fun and very interesting, but for all us wanna-be’s at home what is your ‘falang’ budget when you are there living like a falang, not a Thai?

Rambone, My actual budget is 60-65,000 baht a month and I do very nicely on it.
Talen | Jun 20, 2011 | Reply
Rick…it’s never good lol

Paul, I don’t think many would buy lemonade in Pattaya, unless it was spiked.
Talen | Jun 20, 2011 | Reply
Mike, Yup, same same porridge…very filling but it would get old day after day where rice never seems to get old.

Bangkok, I picked up a bag…they weren’t running the special in the Pattaya Villa though
I don’t think I could eat oatmeal that much…it’s nice now and again but I think rice suits me better for a daily eat.

Arch, no wallets were harmed during this experiment but I have a feeling the day after the experiment ends my wallet is going to sustain some major damage.
